It stands out as the ancient city\u2019s most prominent cemetery, in use from the Prehistoric Period down to Late Antiquity and, at the same time, as one of the major centres of pottery production and vase painting in the ancient world. The site hosts one of the best preserved segments of the ancient fortification wall of Athens, in the course of which two of the most monumental gates had been constructed, the Dipylon, -the largest gate in the ancient Greek world- and the Sacred Gate; they were crossed by equally nodal arteries, the Dromos and the Sacred Way. Here the Athenian state honoured its Gods with ceremonial processions such as the Panathenaic Pompe or the Iacchus procession of the Eleusinian Mysteries, as well as the dead of wars, who were buried at public expense in the Public Cemetery, known as Demosion Sema. Those were commemorated through funerary games and orations, such as the Epitaphios delivered by Pericles. The spirit and ideals of ancient Athens and ancient Greece are concentrated in Kerameikos.{:}{:fr} Le C\u00e9ramique est le quartier qui s\u2019\u00e9tend aux confins nord-ouest de la cit\u00e9 antique. Ce fut le cimeti\u00e8re le plus important, en usage d\u00e8s l\u2019\u00e9poque pr\u00e9historique et jusqu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019Antiquit\u00e9 tardive, et, simultan\u00e9ment, le quartier d\u2019ateliers de potiers le plus important pour la production de c\u00e9ramique et de peinture sur vases du monde antique. Le segment de muraille le mieux conserv\u00e9 de l\u2019enceinte antique d\u2019Ath\u00e8nes est visible dans ce site arch\u00e9ologique. Sur son trajet s\u2019ouvrent deux portes monumentales: le Dipylon (la porte la plus grande du monde grec ancien) et la Porte sacr\u00e9e, par lesquelles passaient deux axes routiers importants, le Dromos et la Voie sacr\u00e9e. Ici, les citoyens ath\u00e9niens v\u00e9n\u00e9raient les dieux en participant aux cort\u00e8ges c\u00e9r\u00e9moniels, comme celui des Panath\u00e9n\u00e9es ou d\u2019Iachos des myst\u00e8res d\u2019Eleusis, mais ils honoraient \u00e9galement les morts tomb\u00e9s au combat, qui furent ensevelis dans le D\u00e9mosion S\u00e9ma, sous les auspices de la cit\u00e9, accompagn\u00e9s de concours athl\u00e9tiques ou de discours fun\u00e8bres, comme celui de P\u00e9ricl\u00e8s. Es war der wichtigste Friedhof der antiken Stadt, im Gebrauch von der pr\u00e4historischen Zeit bis in die Sp\u00e4tantike und gleichzeitig eines der wichtigsten Zentren der Angioplastie und Angiographie der antiken Welt. In Kerameikos wird der besterhaltene Teil der alten Stadtmauer von Athen bewahrt, im Verlauf derer sich zwei der monumentalsten Tore \u00f6ffnen, das Dipylon- das gr\u00f6\u00dfte Tor in der antiken griechischen Welt, und das Heilige Tor, die von zwei wichtigen Hauptverkehrstrassen durchquert wurden, der Weg (Dromos) und die heilige Stra\u00dfe (Iera Odos). Hier hat der attische Staat die G\u00f6tter mit feierlichen Prozessionen geehrt, wie die Prozession der Panathen\u00e4en oder Iakchos von Eleusis, und die Toten der Kriege, die mit Verantwortung der Stadt im \u00f6ffentlichen Abzeichen, mit Wettk\u00e4mpfen und Grabreden beerdigt wurden, wie die von Perikles . Fu la pi\u00f9 grande necropoli della citt\u00e0 antica, in uso dal periodo preistorico fino alla tarda antichit\u00e0 e contemporaneamente uno dei pi\u00f9 importanti centri per la produzione ceramica e ceromografica del mondo antico. Nel quartiere del Ceramico si trova il tratto meglio conservato delle antiche mura di Atene, nelle quali si aprono due delle porte pi\u00f9 monumentali, il Dipylon -la porta urbica pi\u00f9 grande nel mondo greco antico- e la Porta Sacra, attraverso le quali passavano le due principali arterie stradali ateniesi, il Dromos e la Via Sacra rispettivamente. Qui lo Stato Ateniese onorava gli d\u00e8i con processioni rituali, come quella Panatenaica e quella di Iakchos in occasione dei Misteri Eleusinii, nonch\u00e9 i caduti in guerra, che venivano sepolti nel Demosion Sema (Cimitero Pubblico) a carico della citt\u00e0, con competizioni atletiche ed epitafi, come quello di Pericle.
